Gilda Balass is a Swiss-eastern european slow - fashion designer, her roots tracing back as far as North Africa. She has always been intrigued by old traditional handcraft, and is specialized in textile design and knitwear, having a fashion degree at Central Saint Martins. Her Philosophy is to gain knowledge through cultural exchange - she loves to collaborate with artisanal women around the world and believes in nomadism as a lifestyle. Her ethics evoke a non - hierarchical thinking. Freedom, equality and sustainability are key, she conveys her reflective messages on the Zeitgeist through fashion design and carpet art.
She has been and is currently collaborating with artisanal women in different regions of Morocco to help them gain financial independency through artistic practice. Her textile designs are all handwoven in Morocco, her clothes are handmade in her studio in Switzerland and hand knitted in Italy.
